JD Hoss Hardwoods & Carpet is a flooring company that has been known for quality craftsmanship since 1990 in the North Lake Tahoe and Truckee, CA region.
Goals
A small mom-and-pop shop that generates all of its income offline and has very limited resources for active online marketing, JD Hoss needed not just a website, but an online business tool that would help to build its offline business.
The following goals were identified:
- Establish a commanding presence on search engines for several local and industry-specific keyphrases.
- Showcase the portfolio of installation work.
- Generate qualified sales leads.
- Make it easy to maintain the website using limited resources.
Method
To get the most bang for its buck, the website had to be built optimized for generating traffic from natural search engine results. The website users would easily find all the answers to their pre-sales questions and have several ways to initiate contact with JD Hoss. The following tactics were employed:
- Build a standards-compliant, search engines friendly website populated with content and meta tags that are targeted for selected keywords.
- Design a visually attractive and user-friendly website that would showcase the beautiful detailed photos of JD Hoss' work.
- Provide the website visitors with relevant information about flooring products and make it easy for them to order a sample, initiating contact with JD Hoss.
- Offer free “ask the expert” answers to any flooring question the website visitors might have, initiating their project discussion.
- Build an easy content management system that would allow JD Hoss's manager to update the website using just a web browser.
Results
- #1 position on the Yahoo search results for “commercial flooring contractor” in a week! We have to admit, this was the fastest result we've heard of anywhere. Yeah eSherpa!
- Achieved top 3 positions (including #1) on Yahoo, MSN and Google for local search keyphrases like “Truckee hardwood”, “Truckee flooring”, “Truckee carpet”, “Truckee hardwood flooring”, “Truckee flooring contractor”, “commercial flooring contractor Truckee” and others within the first 3 months.
- Achieved top 10 positions (including #1) on Yahoo, MSN and Google for broad search keywords like “commercial flooring contractor”, “flooring contractor”, “hardwood flooring contractor” and others within the first 3 months.
- Received a new project inquiry within a few weeks of the website launch.
- JD Hoss website doesn't need additional staff for maintenance — the content management system requires minimal computer skills and is easily handled by the store manager.

I didn't need to worry about a thing. Not only is Alexander very personable and easy to work with, he made sure that our website contained information that I never thought about...
