Sunrise Sustainable Resources Group Website Re-Design & Development, Phase II

Sunrise Sustainable Resources Group is a 501c3 non-profit organization based in Reno, Nevada. Sunrise promotes sustainable living practices through education, advocacy and community development.
Goals
As a result of effective search engine optimization in Phase I, Sunrise was faced with some growing pains. It needed to:
- Make the job of membership updates and management easier.
- Insure the information integrity of its membership database in order to allow for more efficient data mining and analysis.
- Enable and facilitate monetary donations, membership registration and dues payment online.
Method
Building on the flexible architecture of the existing site we built in Phase I, we added the following modules:
- Using a free, but powerful, open-source MySQL database, a centralized online database of members was engineered. The members' data was combined from all scattered sources previously used, creating a comprehensive depository of members' information to mine. In order to allow the Sunrise manager to add and edit memberships, a password protected database management system was built for the website. For further data mining and analysis by different Sunrise departments and board members, a data export feature was built into the system.
- Instead of trying to build a custom e-commerce solution on a shoestring budget, a free and trusted PayPal solution was integrated into the website to accept donations and payments for memberships. Additionally, the new payment system was tied to the Sunrise membership database. From now on, all new payments and user information are automatically updated in the Sunrise membership database, saving time and maintaining a high level of data integrity.
Results
- Sunrise saved countless man-hours on routine tasks like membership updates.
- Management has a better view of Sunrise membership, thanks to the centralized online database.
- The members' and volunteers' database is up-to-date and easy to manage.
- Data mining for membership renewal trends, untapped volunteer skills, and other information is now much more efficient.
- The new online payment system makes it much easier for Sunrise patrons to pay their membership dues and make donations.
